#1 With A Bullet: The Film Hip-Hop Has Been Waiting For

A Star-Studded Cast and Fearless Storytelling Take Aim at the Music Industry’s Darkest Secrets

There is a new film generating serious buzz, and it is not just because of the names attached to it. #1 With A Bullet is a dramatic thriller that pulls back the curtain on the music industry, and what is hiding behind it is not pretty. With legendary entertainer Morris Day serving as Executive Producer, director Jibril Haynes at the helm, and a cast that includes Drea Kelly, J.D. Williams, and Angel Fabian, this film is equal parts cautionary tale and cultural call to action.

To top it all off, Hip Hop pioneer Daddy O lends his legendary voice as narrator throughout the film, guiding audiences through a world that is as seductive as it is dangerous. #1 With A Bullet hits theaters this fall 2026, and trust us, you are not ready.

The Story Behind the Story

Producer and story creator Courtney Benson has spent over two decades operating at the highest levels of the music industry. What he witnessed there would not leave him alone. “One day I saw a collage of rap artists who died violently,” Benson recalls. “I thought to myself, there is more to these deaths than random street activities. It is far too many young artists who are no longer with us.” That unsettling truth became the heartbeat of this film.

Morris Day, who signed on as Executive Producer after Benson brought him the concept, saw it clearly from the start. “I am a fan of dramatic thrillers, and this film hits on all cylinders.” But for Day, it was also personal. He has watched artist development disappear from the industry he helped define. “The labels do not take the time to grow the artist and prepare them for longevity,” he says. His message to every young artist watching? “Read the fine print and pay attention to detail.”

The Director: 90% Reality, 10% Fiction

Jibril Haynes did not come to this story as an outsider. As a director, writer, producer, and former artist, he has seen both sides of the industry’s door. “I would say the film leans about 90% reality, 10% fiction,” he says without flinching. “We have seen where artists come from, and we have seen where they end up. And the truth is, a lot of it is not pretty.”

Haynes built the film around three deliberate pillars: street culture, social commentary, and suspense, and he made sure every single scene carried the weight of all three. “It was about making sure every scene carried all three layers at once.” The result is a film that does not ease you in. It grabs you from the first frame and does not let go.

The Characters You Will Not Forget

At the center of it all is Lil Guapo, played by Elijah Haynes, a young artist with raw talent, real dreams, and no idea what he has just walked into. “He is naïve to an extent,” Haynes admits, “especially when it comes to the dealings of his contract. But Guapo will still surprise you with how intelligent he is when challenged.” He represents every young artist chasing a dream in a system designed to consume them. “He represents both the possibility of making it out, and the very real danger of being consumed by the system.”

Standing across from him is Teddy Proof, the CEO of Bullet Proof Records, portrayed by Angel Fabian. Do not call him a villain. “He is a visionary,” Fabian insists. “He does not see the repercussions of what he is doing until it is too late.” Fabian plays the role with a chilling charm that will have you questioning everything. “How do you show menace and power by showing you the complete opposite of what that looks like? That tension is where it gets interesting.”

Then there is Nanna, played by the incomparable Drea Kelly, a woman who has survived the industry’s worst and carries its truth like armor. “Nanna is a tortured soul, with a truth to bear,” Kelly says. “She is the protector, the truth teller, and the silent strategist.” Her warning to young artists is delivered with ice: “All that glitters ain’t gold. If they walk up to you smiling with a hand out, the other hand has a knife hiding behind their back. True story.”

And do not sleep on J.D. Williams as Dupree, a man whose most dangerous weapon is not what he does but what he knows. “Knowledge makes anyone more dangerous,” Williams says simply. What will surprise fans most about his performance? “If I told you, that might spoil the surprise.”

Daddy O: The Voice That Ties It All Together

No one was more fitting to narrate this story than Hip Hop pioneer Daddy O. His presence throughout the film is not background noise. It is a force. Daddy O made it clear that he wanted his narration tone to speak truth with his realness, and that his narrator voice needed to be gigantic to match the weight of what is unfolding on screen.

When we asked him what the final bar would be if this movie were a rap verse, he did not hesitate. He reached into the Wu-Tang vault and said simply, “Protect Your Neck.” That says everything you need to know about this film.

The Verdict

#1 With A Bullet is more than a film. It is a mirror, a warning, and a movement. As Benson puts it, “Don’t sell your soul for fame. Because the outcome is never in your favor.”

With Daddy O’s commanding voice guiding you through every twist, a cast that brings raw and undeniable truth to the screen, and a story that is 90% real, this is the film Hip Hop has needed for a long time.
