Chad Broland killed, another injured after car plunges 150 feet into bushes off Hummingbird Highway

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police are investigating a fatal road traffic accident near Belmopan in which a vehicle reportedly left the Hummingbird Highway and travelled approximately 150 feet into thick bushes, leaving one man dead and another injured.

Police received information about the accident around 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, near La Cabana bar, shortly after Wooden Street.

At the scene, officers encountered Jeffrey Perez with an apparent injury to the back of his head.

Police followed a trail of vehicle debris leading diagonally from the highway into the bushes, where they found a black Mazda extensively damaged and facing away from the highway.

A second man, identified as Chad Borland of University Boulevard, Belmopan, was found motionless approximately one foot away from the vehicle. He was transported to the Western Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:20 p.m.

Preliminary police investigations indicate the Mazda had been travelling from the direction of the roundabout toward Armenia before leaving the roadway.

Police say statements remained to be obtained and surveillance cameras in the vicinity of La Cabana bar were also expected to be reviewed as the investigation continues.
