Pierre Unveils ‘Most Generous Tax Amnesty Ever’: Interest, Penalties Scrapped Until 2027

Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Philip J. Pierre has announced what he describes as one of the most far-reaching tax relief measures in Saint Lucia’s history, revealing that Cabinet will approve a major extension of the national Tax Amnesty Programme through to December 2027.

The move is expected to provide significant relief to individuals and businesses carrying long-standing tax arrears, with the government offering a sweeping waiver of all interest and penalties attached to taxes owed up to December 2025.

“What is important to note is that all interest and penalties of taxes due till December 2025 will be waived,” Pierre announced, describing the initiative as “probably the most generous ever” offered in the country.

The amnesty applies to the principal categories of taxes administered by the state, including Value Added Tax (VAT), Personal Income Tax, Corporate Income Tax, and Land and Property Taxes.

The extension signals the government’s continued effort to ease financial pressures on taxpayers while improving overall compliance. Since 2022, the Pierre Administration has implemented several rounds of tax amnesty measures aimed at helping both businesses and individuals settle outstanding obligations, improve cash flow, and strengthen confidence in the economy.

Pierre urged taxpayers to take advantage of the opportunity by engaging directly with the Inland Revenue Department to develop realistic repayment arrangements.

“We are offering the client to come and speak to the Inland Revenue Department,” the Prime Minister said, emphasizing that the government remains committed to helping taxpayers regularize their accounts.

Under the revised programme, taxpayers with outstanding arrears accumulated up to December 1, 2025, are being encouraged to visit their nearest Inland Revenue Department office or access the online tax portal to benefit from the relief measures before the December 2027 deadline expires.

The announcement is expected to be welcomed by many taxpayers who have struggled with mounting penalties and interest charges, while also giving the government an opportunity to recover long-outstanding revenues through increased compliance and negotiated settlements.
