Algeria’s Fateh Habib Boudaoud elected new PAP president

The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) has elected new leadership in Midrand, with Algeria’s Fateh Habib Boudaoud taking the presidency.

The newly elected president secured 119 out of 134 votes cast, with 15 ballots spoiled. He will serve a three-year term under the African Union’s regional rotation system.

In his inaugural address, Boudaoud outlined the important contribution that North Africa can make towards the rest of the continent.

“There cannot be, can no longer be a talk about Africa without particularly paying particular attention to North Africa, a true civilizational and strategic bridge between the countries and its Mediterranean and global domains. The countries of North Africa, particularly Algeria, possess potential and resources that make them a genuine locomotive of continental integration. Algeria, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, plays a central role in promoting peace, development, and integration, as well as in advancing African solutions to African problems.”
