August opens fair and sunny for Emancipation Day

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): August has arrived dressed in sunshine. Mainly fair and mostly dry conditions prevail across Belize as the new month opens, delivering ideal weather for Emancipation Day observances and the holiday weekend ahead.

According to the National Meteorological Service, skies will be mostly sunny today and partly cloudy tonight. Showers, if any, will be isolated, a clean break from the tropical wave that closed out July with a wet Friday morning.

Temperatures along the coast will reach a high of 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31 Celsius) and a low of 80 (27 Celsius). Inland areas will be hot, climbing to 94 degrees Fahrenheit (34 Celsius) before dropping to 73 (23 Celsius). In the hills, expect a high of 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius) and a cool low of 68 (20 Celsius). For those attending outdoor ceremonies and celebrations today, the sun will be strong, so hydration and shade remain wise companions.

At sea, conditions have settled from Friday’s caution, with east to northeasterly winds of 10 to 20 knots, moderate seas, and waves of 4 to 6 feet.

On the tropical front, the month begins quietly. Tropical cyclone formation is not expected in the region over the next 48 hours.

Looking ahead, generally fair conditions with only isolated showers, if any, continue for Sunday, before isolated showers or thunderstorms become possible over the south for Sunday night.

Today’s high tides are at 11:29 AM and 12:16 AM tomorrow, with a low tide at 6:17 PM and another low at 6:15 AM tomorrow. The sun rose at 5:32 AM and will set at 6:25 PM. The forecast was issued by forecaster Crystal Rosalez.
