Belize’s Gonz Auto Stars crowned Champions at Copa Cancún Basketball Tournament

By Zoila Palma:  Belize’s Gonz Auto Stars returned home with championship honors after delivering an impressive performance at the XII Copa Cancún Basketball Tournament in Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico.

They competed with both its U15 and U17 teams from July 23 to 26, facing strong competition from teams across the region.

Both Gonz Auto Stars teams showcased determination, discipline and teamwork throughout the tournament, battling hard in every game and representing Belize with pride. Their performances reflected the commitment and fighting spirit that have become hallmarks of the Gonz Auto Stars basketball program.

The biggest achievement came from the U17 team, which captured first place to bring the championship title home to Belize. The victory was celebrated as a testament to the players’ hard work, dedication and belief in one another.

The team credited coaches Gabriel Taylor, Ronell Gonzalez Sr., Cordel Gonzalez Jr. and Cordel Gonzalez Sr. for their leadership, preparation and support throughout the tournament.

Gonz Auto Stars also expressed gratitude to its sponsors and everyone who supported the team’s BBQ fundraiser, which helped make the international trip possible.
