Benque Viejo Town Council honored as Council of the Year

By Zoila Palma:  The Benque Viejo del Carmen Town Council has been named Town Council of the Year after receiving the highest score in the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development and Local Government’s assessment of municipal councils.

The Ministry congratulated Mayor Jorge Rosales and the Benque Viejo Town Council on the achievement, which recognizes the council’s performance across several areas of local governance and administration.

The scoring matrix considered the timely submission of financial reports, regular council meetings and submission of meeting minutes, the use of locally generated revenue for infrastructure maintenance and construction, the holding of public meetings at least twice a year, and regular reporting on council development initiatives.

In a statement, the Benque Viejo Town Council said the municipality “continues to develop under this current administration,” while emphasizing that the achievement was made possible through the support of residents.

The council said the award reflects the collective efforts of the administration and the people of Benque Viejo del Carmen.

The Ministry extended congratulations to Mayor Rosales and the council.
