CHETNA Association of Canada says it is pleased and grateful to the B.C. Government for proclaiming April 14 as Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Equality Day and the month of April as the Dalit History Month.
The City of Surrey also proclaimed April 14, 2026 as the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Equality Day.
These proclamations are very important in supporting awareness and community engagement, says Jai Birdi.
Similar to Canada, India is a multicultural and diverse country and shares similar values.
Chetna Association of Canada congratulated everyone on the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Equality Day and the Dalit History Month.
On April 13, the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Equality Day and Dalit History Month were celebrated at Simon Fraser University. On April 14, the celebrations took place at the History Department, of the University British Columbia.
At SFU, Chetna Association of Canada recognized Harjinder and Chanchal Mall for establishing the Dr. Ambedkar Research Award; Burnaby Councillor Sav Dhaliwal for his inclusive leadership; and Indian Consul General Masakui Rungsung for 30 years of community partnership. Sumit Chauhan was presented the Dr. Ambedkar Journalism Award.
At UBC, Chetna Association of Canada presented Dr. Anne Murphy, Dr. Seema Mahi and Dr. Bonnie Effros with the B.C. Government’s proclamation of Dalit History Month.
Artists Raghu Rao sang one of the songs of Guru Kabir and Gagan Mann sang a song in glory of Dr. Ambedkar.
