A match that brought together last year’s co-champions of the Sandals/Saint Lucia National Cricket Association Under-19 Boys’ Cricket Tournament could only end with one victor this time. Gros Islet defeated Central Castries by five wickets on Sunday for their eighth title.
The fixture, played at the Mindoo Philip Park, saw the boys from the north restrict a strong Central Castries side to 183 all out. Skipper Theo Edward made 45 runs including five fours and two sixes before he was bowled by Neil Poyotte. Aiden Scholar, who batted at number three in the final, top-scored with 70 runs but received little support from the middle order, aside from Tyler Venner, who added 29.
Kaleb Charles was the pick of the bowlers for Gros Islet, claiming 3-26, well supported by Poyotte, who finished with 3-43.
In reply, Gros Islet chased down the total in 27.3 overs. The team achieved the victory through partnerships rather than a single standout performance. While Daniel Lorde top-scored with 42, the chase was powered by contributions from Roystan Fannis (19), Jonathan Daniel (27), and Kanil Nelson (22).
The victorious team was headed by head coach Alton Crafton.
