!Hanamub scoops four AmaZulu awards

Namibian international left-back Riaan !Hanamub (31) walked away with four individual awards at AmaZulu FC’s 2025/26 end-of-season awards, capping an outstanding campaign with the South African Premiership club.

The defender, who was appointed club captain for the recently concluded season, once again proved his importance to the Durban-based side.

!Hanamub was one of AmaZulu’s most consistent performers, missing only two league matches. He featured in 28 league games, scoring one goal and providing two assists, while making 33 appearances across all competitions.

His performances earned him the most consistent player award, before he returned to the stage to collect the most disciplined player award, the coach’s award, and the president’s award.

!Hanamub finished the evening with four individual honours, tying with attacker Athini Maqokolo (23), who won most improved player, best newcomer, best forward, and player of the season.

The awards reflected !Hanamub’s leadership and influence as captain throughout the campaign.

Since joining AmaZulu from Chippa United in 2022, he has established himself as one of the club’s most dependable players. Over four seasons, he has made 127 appearances, scoring two goals and providing 13 assists. His consistency earned him the captain’s armband, making him the first Namibian to captain AmaZulu FC.

The celebrations continued after the awards ceremony as AmaZulu travelled to the 2026 KZN Premier’s Cup, a six-team pre-season tournament, where they were crowned champions.

The Durban outfit defeated Midlands Wanderers 2-0 in the semi-finals before recording another 2-0 victory over Milford FC in the final. Goals from Sandile Mthethwa in the 11th minute and Khomotjo Lekoloane in the 43rd minute secured the trophy, allowing !Hanamub to complete a remarkable week with both individual and team honours.

Elsewhere, another Namibian celebrated silverware in South Africa. Striker Bethuel Muzeu (26) recently completed a move to premiership side Sekhukhune United after spending four seasons with Black Leopards in the South African first division.

Muzeu wasted little time in getting silverware with his new team, winning the inaugural Mafori Cup with a 1-0 victory over Magesi FC at Seshego Stadium on Saturday.

New signing Athenkosi Mcaba scored the decisive goal to hand Sekhukhune their first trophy of the new campaign.

Former AmaZulu and Namibian international striker Elmo Kambindu (33) was also in action for Magesi FC as he continues searching for a new club following the expiry of his contract with AmaZulu. He is hoping to impress the technical team and secure a deal.

Meanwhile, African Stars attacking midfielder Edmar Kamatuka is currently on pre-season assessment with Richards Bay FC as he looks to earn a contract with the South African top-flight side. Richards Bay already have Namibian midfielder Tully Nashixwa, who joined from African Stars last season and has established himself as a regular starter.

African Stars goalkeeper Mervin Kasetura and defender Vevangapi Mbuende are also in South Africa on assessment with Gomora United FC, who compete in the South African first division, as they aim to secure professional contracts ahead of the new season.
