Katsina: Fresh attack rocks Musawa communities amid protest over insecurity

Armed bandits have launched a fresh attack on rural settlements on the western outskirts of Musawa town in Katsina State, forcing residents to flee their homes and rustling large numbers of livestock in a renewed wave of insecurity in the area.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, was confirmed in a post shared on X by a northern security analyst and crisis reporter, Bakatsine, who has been tracking security incidents across the North-West region.

According to him, the attackers invaded multiple rural communities in Musawa Local Government Area, shooting sporadically and forcing residents to abandon their homes in panic.

He said women and children were among those displaced and are currently taking refuge in Musawa town without shelter, food, or basic support despite ongoing rainfall and harsh conditions.

Bakatsine described the situation as urgent, calling for immediate humanitarian assistance for affected families and stronger security deployment to prevent further attacks in the area.

He was quoted as saying: “The attackers operated with little resistance and succeeded in rustling large numbers of cattle before escaping into nearby forest routes.”

He further urged security agencies to intensify operations across Musawa and surrounding communities, warning that repeated attacks were worsening the humanitarian situation in rural Katsina.

DAILY POST reports that the renewed attack came barely hours after protests erupted along the Kano–Katsina corridor, where angry youths blocked the highway in response to rising bandit attacks and killings in nearby communities.

The protest, which disrupted movement along the strategic Dayi–Gwarzo axis, saw demonstrators barricading roads and calling for urgent government intervention to stop recurring raids on villages.

Community members say the combination of protests and fresh attacks has heightened tension in the region, with many fearing further escalation if security presence is not increased.

As of press time, security authorities in Katsina State had yet to issue an official statement on the latest attack, while residents continue to count losses and await relief support.
