Longtime New York Amsterdam News columnist and celebrity gossip writer Florence “Flo” Anthony died early Thursday, Aug. 6. Jack Hirsch, biographer for her husband, boxing legend Michael Spinks, confirmed her passing to the AmNews. She was 74.
The two had worked together on Michael “Jinx” Spinks: An Authorized Biography, which was released in March. He said that she recently disclosed to him that she was battling cancer.
Anthony was best known for her Amsterdam News celebrity gossip column, “Go With the Flo,” which chronicled entertainment news and celebrity happenings for years. She also wrote for the Philadelphia Sun.
