Police have launched a manhunt following the death of an 18-year-old boy who was attacked with a panga in Braamfischerville, Soweto, on Tuesday.

The learner reportedly left home in the morning to visit a friend.

Police say the two teenagers then proceeded towards a nearby school where the deceased was attacked with a panga.

Gauteng Police Spokesperson Tintswalo Sibeko says the motive of the attack is unknown and investigations continue.

Sibeko says, “Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased, a learner at a secondary school in Meadowlands, had left home earlier that morning to visit a friend in Phase 1, Braamfischerville.”

Sikeko adds, “It is alleged that the two proceeded to a secondary school in the area where the deceased was attacked and assaulted by unknown suspects. The victim sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local clinic in a private vehicle for medical treatment. He later succumbed to his injuries.’
