What happens when fashion, music, culture, and hometown pride collide? You get BREZERK CROWNED, the highly anticipated second annual runway show by Memphis’ own multi-hyphenate artist, dancer, and designer, Brezay.
Held at Crosstown Arts inside the Crosstown Concourse, the show was much more than a traditional fashion runway. It was a high-energy, immersive experience. This event proved once again that the Memphis creative scene is in a league of its own.
The Origin of a Fashion House
The story of Brezerk started in 2020 while Brezay was a 20-year-old student at Jackson State University. Armed with a few logo T-shirts and the courage to introduce herself across campus, she sold out on her very first day. But she knew she wanted more than just a brand. She wanted a true fashion house built on originality and craftsmanship.
To call herself a designer, Brezay set out to learn how to create garments from scratch. She started by hand-sewing, eventually transitioning to her grandmother’s sewing machines. That’s when the magic happened. Signature pieces like her bubble-letter shorts and mini jorts were born. These items reflected a fearlessness and authenticity that defines her work. For Brezay, her designs “go crazy” (which is exactly what “Brezerk” means). They encourage people to stand out rather than fit in.
A Royal Aesthetic with a Memphis Flair
The “BREZERK CROWNED” showcase lived up to its name, blending a “royal aesthetic” with bold, impeccably tailored Memphis streetwear. The 40-piece collection left no stone unturned. It featured structured denim and outerwear and meticulously crafted garments styled with Memphis flair. There was also a consistent motif: nature as texture with unique material combinations. These features gave the streetwear an organic, elevated feel.
It was a complete audiovisual experience. Models strutted down the runway accompanied by coordinated choreography from dancers, all moving to music by Brezay herself. For her, fashion and music are simply two forms of the same art.
Supporting local, growing national
Brezerk is already a local powerhouse, celebrated for its elevated streetwear and its high-profile, sold-out design collaborations with the Memphis Grizzlies. The momentum is only growing. This is drawing major support from prominent fashion labels like Valabasas—who, in a testament to the city’s growing fashion influence, is opening their first Memphis storefront this October.
