Nine medals for Belize as student-athletes shine at CODICADER 2026

By Zoila Palma:  Belize secured nine medals at the XXII Central American Student Sports Games (CODICADER 2026), held from September 4 to 13 in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

The National Sports Council of Belize congratulated Team Belize for its strong performance, which saw the delegation earn two gold, three silver and four bronze medals.

A total of 183 Belizean student-athletes competed against more than 2,200 participants from across Central America in several sporting disciplines.

The gold medals were won by Oshane Munnings of Bishop Martin High School in the boys’ high jump and Jaaden Williams of Toledo Community College in the boys’ triple jump.

Belize also earned three silver medals, with Antwan Latchman of Sadie Vernon Technical High School placing second in the boys’ 200 metres, Jordi Escalante of New Hope High School taking silver in the boys’ javelin, and the Saint Catherine Academy girls’ volleyball team finishing second.

Four bronze medals were secured by Brayden Jacobs of Nazarene High School in the boys’ 100 metres, Isaac Gabourel of Kings College in shot put, Jan Sosa of Quality School International in boys’ javelin, and Team Belize’s boys’ volleyball team.

The National Sports Council said the performances in athletics and volleyball highlighted the talent and growing competitiveness of Belize’s young athletes. The council commended the student-athletes, coaches, team officials, schools, sporting associations, parents and supporters, as well as Belize Athletics and NSSSA, for their contributions to the delegation’s success.

Beyond the medals, Belize’s participation in CODICADER provided student-athletes with valuable international competition, cultural exchange and opportunities to develop their skills on the regional stage.
