Nigerian Afro-fusion star Omah Lay expands the visual world of his latest album, Clarity of Mind, with a new cinematic music video for “Artificial Happiness,” a track that continues his exploration of emotional conflict, self-discovery, and the complexities of the human experience.
Released via Sire Records and Warner Records, the video was developed alongside trusted collaborator and director NWSPK. Set inside an abandoned warehouse, the visual opens with Omah Lay awakening in a space unexpectedly marked by a white tree at its centre. Mysterious figures rush towards the tree, gathering in an unsettling display of movement and collective energy before the scene builds into a surreal sequence that sees the singer levitate above the unfolding action.
The cryptic imagery gives the video an immersive quality, reflecting the introspective atmosphere surrounding Clarity of Mind. Rather than presenting a straightforward narrative, the visual draws viewers into an unfamiliar environment where movement, symbolism, and the artist’s presence work together to create a sense of mystery.
“Artificial Happiness” appears on Clarity of Mind, Omah Lay’s second full-length album and his first since 2022’s Boy Alone. The 2026 project marks a new chapter for the Grammy-nominated singer, expanding his established Afro-fusion sound into alternative and electronic territory while retaining the melodic instincts and emotional honesty that have shaped his rise.
Since its release in the spring, Clarity of Mind has accumulated more than half a billion streams, according to the release announcement. The album also debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard Top World Albums chart, giving Omah Lay his first Top 10 debut in the United States on that chart.
The project explores the contradictions that come with personal growth, moving between ambition and uncertainty, desire and detachment, faith and isolation. At its centre is “I Am,” a hypnotic, mantra-like track that blurs the boundaries between self-confidence and inner turmoil. Elsewhere, “Julia” pairs pulsing production with emotional isolation, while “Canada Breeze” leans into spirituality, success and the feeling of becoming detached from the world around you.
Other tracks extend those themes in different directions. “Don’t Love Me” explores emotional distance and desire, while “Holy Ghost” brings spiritual tension into focus. “Waist” offers another perspective on the project’s range, balancing the artist’s familiar rhythmic appeal with the wider emotional landscape of the album.
Together, the songs reflect an artist willing to explore new textures without abandoning the personal storytelling that has defined his music. Clarity of Mind presents Omah Lay as someone confronting different sides of himself rather than attempting to resolve every contradiction, allowing vulnerability and confidence to exist alongside one another.
That approach follows a career built on translating personal experiences into music with international reach. Emerging from Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Omah Lay first gained widespread attention with his 2020 Get Layd EP before releasing Boy Alone in 2022. The latter featured Justin Bieber, while subsequent collaborations have included Davido, Kehlani, Clean Bandit, Myke Towers, Bees and Honey, Ozuna, Tems and Tyla.
His recent Grammy nomination alongside Davido for “With You” has added another milestone to his growing international profile. Yet the themes running through Clarity of Mind suggest that his current focus extends beyond commercial success, turning towards a more direct examination of identity, emotional balance and the search for peace.
The new “Artificial Happiness” video strengthens that vision, translating the album’s introspective character into an abstract, cinematic experience. Its abandoned setting, central white tree, and mysterious gathering create a striking backdrop for a song situated within Omah Lay’s broader exploration of the mind and its competing impulses.
