LeBron James has spent more than two decades changing teams, winning championships, breaking records and somehow remaining one of basketball’s biggest talking points. But there’s been another long-running subplot fans have watched almost as closely: Bron’s hairline.

When James entered the NBA in 2003, the then-18-year-old had a clean Caesar, a sharp lineup and absolutely no reason for anyone to be studying the top of his head. More than 20 years later, that same hairline has become part of NBA internet lore, complete with oversized headbands, disappearing corners, alleged comebacks and endless “LeBald” jokes.

Now the conversation has come full circle. James showed up to Philadelphia 76ers Media Day on September 28 with what looked like his most committed bald look yet, as he posed in a Sixers jersey for the first time. CBS Philadelphia even described it as a “new bald look,” while social media quickly began joking that perhaps Bron finally sacrificed the hair in pursuit of championship No. 5.

It isn’t technically the first time LeBron James has taken things this low. He showed off a shaved head on Instagram back in 2022, and he appeared fully bald again earlier this summer. But there was usually enough regrowth afterward to keep the never-ending hairline conversation alive. This time, entering his record-extending 24th NBA season with an entirely new franchise, Bald LeBron may actually be here to stay. So, in honor of what could be the end of one of sports’ longest-running grooming sagas, here’s a quick trip through LeBron James’ hairline journey.

2003: Rookie Bron Had Nothing To Worry About

Young LeBron arrived in Cleveland with a full head of hair and a lineup sharp enough to match all the hype surrounding the No. 1 overall pick. Looking back at photos from his high school days and rookie season almost feels strange now because the hairline discourse that would eventually follow him everywhere simply did not exist yet.
