Samyha Suffren was one of five players in double figures on Thursday, January 8, as the Virginia Tech women’s basketball team earned a 77-57 win over Syracuse at the JMA Dome. It was the first time since November that five Hokies had scored at least 10 points in the same game.
The 5-8 redshirt sophomore guard, who attended Cannon School in Charlotte, North Carolina, hit a super-efficient 7-11 from the field in the conference tilt, adding 2-3 from the line to get to 16 points. Guard Carleigh Wenzel led all players with 18 points.
Coming off the bench, Suffren added two rebounds, an assist, and a steal in 20 minutes on the floor.
Suffren made several key plays in the first half to help Virginia Tech build off its momentum and outplay the Orange. At halftime, she had combined with Mackenzie Nelson for nearly half of VT’s 35 points.
Suffren, who is studying sport media and analytics, scored in double figures in consecutive games for just the second time this season. She leads the team in steals for the season and is just outside the top 10 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
