Over 80 Squash players from Uganda and the East African region will be in action for the 2026 Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile Memorial championship slated for Kampala Club Limited between Monday, 13th to Saturday, 18th April 2026.

This championship will be happening for the third time since the demise of the former Governor for the Bank of Uganda who was ardent lover of this indoor game.

Bank of Uganda has announced a Ug.Shs 20,000,000 sponsorship for the outstanding players who will play in the three different categories; men, ladies and seniors.

2026 Professor Mutebile Squash launch at Kampala Club Limited

“Bank of Uganda remains committed to the cause of sports promotion through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) vote. We are contributing Ug.Shs 20,000,000 towards the Prof. Mutebile memorial squash open. The late professor was devoted person towards the growth of this sport. We still stand by the values he fronted of excellence, teamwork, diligence and service” Kaliisa Katongole, Deputy Director for Bank of Uganda spoke during the launch.

Godfrey Okello Omoding, Honorary secretary at Kampala Club Limited confirmed the attendance of the top country’s players and those from elsewhere in the region in Kenya and Rwanda.

“We have extended invites to players from Kenya and Rwanda. They will battle with the home bred players and we expect a great competition” Okello stated.

One of Uganda’s top seeds Ivan Wasswa has vowed to give his best performance in this championship, among the regional’s finest players as James Dalidi.

“Personally, I have been training well and expect a great championship” Wasswa hinted.

The launch was also graced by the tournament director Michael Raymond Kawooya, Timothy Kayondo (captain of Squash at Kampala Club) and Adrian Mwine, another official from the Bank of Uganda.

The competition commences on Monday, 13th April 2026 and will climax by Saturday, 18th April 2026, on the same day of the awards dinner.
