Amanda Moropa doesn’t just manage reputations – she builds relationships designed to outlast the news cycle. As founder and managing director of Johannesburg based PR and communications agency Moleb Media, Moropa has spent more than a decade understanding what makes brands better, both in the media and to the people they serve.
Moropa’s career began in lifestyle public relations, where she developed a strong instinct for storytelling, media relationships and event strategy. Working closely with brands and personalities gave her an understanding of how quickly public perception can shift – and how important it is to have a clear, authentic story. Today, her portfolio spans both consumer and corporate communications, allowing her to move comfortably betwee B2C and B2B environments
One of the defining chapters of Moropa’s career has been her involvement in major national platforms, including South Africa’s G20 and B20 summits, where she led client and media relations alongside Brand South Africa. It’s a significant shift from the lifestyle spaces where she started, but perhaps that is exactly what makes her journey so compelling. The same communication instincts that can create excitement around a restaurant opening or lifestyle brand can also be applied to conversations happening on a national and global stage.
Behind Moropa’s practical experience is a strong academic foundation, with qualifications in Marketing Management and Social Media Management. For her, education isn’t simply about having credentials – it has helped sharpen the strategic thinking required to understand what a client actually needs. That combination of formal knowledge and more than a decade of industry experience allows her to look beyond individual deliverables.
Perhaps the strongest philosophy behind Moropa’s work is her belief that public relations should never be reduced to brand building alone. “PR is not always about building brands, it’s also about building people”. That mindset has shaped the way she approaches clients and communities alike. Whether she is working with a corporate organisation, government-aligned platform or a consumer-facing brand, Moropa sees the people behind the logo as equally as important to the story being told.
Moropa also recognises something particularly unique about the South African PR landscape: the relationships between public relations professionals and the media. While those relationships can operate differently in other markets, South African PR practitioners often have a direct and deeply connected relationship with journalists and newsrooms. She sees that access as both a privilege and a responsibility. The PR professionals should not simply be the person pushing a story to a newsroom, but a credible bridge between the boardroom and the newsroom.
Interestingly, Moropa describes herself as a naturally reserved, yet a career in PR has continuously pushed her into spaces where visbility, advocacy and public communication are unavoidable. Her work now includes representing state officlas in the media and increasingly positioning herself as a voice within the PR profession. It’s a reminder that communications is not always about being the loudest person in the room.
Moropa’s career offers an interesting perspective on where public relations in South Africa is heading. The industry is no longer simply about press coverage, column inches or getting a brand mentioned in the right publication. It is about influence, trust, people, positioning and creating stories that audiences can actually connect with.
Through Moleb Media and Leari Lifestyle Magazine, Moropa continues to build a career rooted in both commercial storytelling and purpose. Her journey is ultimately a reminder that behind every successful brand is a network of people -and the strongest PR professionals understand that reputation is built through relationships understand that reputation is built through relationships, not headlines alone.
