170 families benefit as Belize City Council provides Back-to-School vouchers

By Zoila Palma:  The Belize City Council has taken a different approach to its annual Back-to-School Initiative this year, giving families vouchers instead of pre-selected school supplies.

A total of 170 families received vouchers that allowed parents to obtain the school-related items their children actually need at Dibary Belize’s downtown store.

The initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden on families as they prepare for the upcoming academic year while giving parents greater flexibility in deciding what to purchase.

Deputy Mayor Eluide Miller and Councillor Dorian Usher were present on Sunday, August 16, to welcome student shoppers and interact with participating families.

The Council said the initiative reflects its continued commitment to supporting families and promoting the educational well-being of children in Belize City.

By providing vouchers rather than specific items, families were able to make purchases based on their individual children’s needs.

The Belize City Council also thanked Dibary Belize for its partnership and corporate social responsibility.

Student shoppers received an additional 10 percent discount and a complimentary snack during the voucher shopping day.
