Inform cyclist, Tahje Browne, will lead a team of 11 riders as Antigua and Barbuda hosts top cyclists from within the sub-region for the 2026 OECS Cycling Championships slated for Sunday.

Browne, unbeaten so far this year on the local circuit, will ride in the Elite category where he is joined by Jyme Bridges Jr., Shawn Weathered, Newell Mack and Conroy Thomas. Wayne Henry, Jason Adams, Vaughn Gomes, Cornell Hughes and Paul Smith will fly the country’s flag in the Masters category. Young cyclist, Elite Thomas, will compete in the Junior category.

President of the Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Federation (ABCF), St. Clair Williams, says over 25 cyclists and their support staff are expected for the championships, the first since 2019.

“Coming from overseas, we have about 30 actual cyclists across about three different categories and they will be coming along with their mechanics and their team manager and then we have the Antigua contingent which we would have chosen cyclists from the elite category, the masters and juniors. So we’ll have some of those cyclists being a part of the OECS and also the workers’ union race and then we also have another cross-section of the Antigua team will be in the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union Invitational Race as well,” he said.

Williams noted that work has already started on the intended route as they continue to dialog with the relevant authorities.

“I’ve been in conversation with the Ministry of Works. They went out and did some patching. We reviewed what they did and now, just up to yesterday [Monday], I had another drive-through and we saw some more areas that we wanted some additional stuff taken care of. So they’ll be looking into it between today and Friday and hopefully, we’ll be in agreement with what they did so that we could have a very smooth and safe race,” he said.

Sunday’s race will pedal off at 7:00 a.m. and will be held concurrently with the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union (ABWU) Invitational which will utilize the same route.
