Central 7s: Impis survive early scare to secure Kisubi 7s

The Impis overcame a humiliating group stage loss to the Buddu Bears to rise and win the Kisubi 7s.

Impis failed to score in the first half as the Buddu Bears went 26 points ahead at the halftime break. Impis then put up a fight in the second half, but their 10 points were not enough to overturn the lead. The game ended 26-10, and it gave the Makerere side a lot to think about ahead of the knockout stages.

With the Blue Phoenix giving away a walkover in the group stage, the Impis managed to get into the playoffs, where they got their sweet revenge against the Buddu Bears to set up a final with the Namugongo Golden Badgers.

In the final, tries from players like Lincoln Mashate, Derrick Tumukunde and Edwin Muhumuza gave Impis a comfortable 24-point cushion, but Impis were punished in the last play of the game when new signing Bodi Lam received a yellow card, allowing the Badgers to score a converted try. The final score was 24-07, with Impis taking home the accolade.

After winning Masaka 7s and the Kisubi 7s, Impis have now secured two Central 7s titles in as many outings, putting themselves in the driving seat to represent the central region in the final national qualifiers with teams from the North, East and West.
