The Saint Lucia Kings have revealed that Barbadian Roston Chase will lead the team as captain for the 2026 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
The 34-year-old veteran all-rounder has been a mainstay in the Kings squad for multiple seasons. He was a key part of the title-winning season in 2024, and is looking to repeat those exploits in the upcoming season.
Chase, the current West Indies Test captain, finished as the leading run-scorer in the 2021 CPL with 446 runs, and was named Player of the Tournament.
Though born in Barbados, he has Saint Lucian ancestry, with a grandmother hailing from the Fair Helen.
“It is a tremendous honour to be named captain of the Saint Lucia Kings,” Chase said. “This franchise has been a big part of my cricketing journey, and I have always enjoyed representing the Kings and playing in front of our passionate fans. To now have the opportunity to lead this team is something I am incredibly proud of.”
Head Coach Daren Sammy, who has both captained and coached Chase for the Kings, said about his appointment: “Roston has earned the respect of everyone in the dressing room through his consistency, work ethic and selfless approach to the game. He leads by example and understands what it means to represent Saint Lucia. I have no doubt he has the character and cricketing acumen to guide this talented group, and I’m excited to see the team rally behind him as we begin another important CPL season.”
The Kings season officially begins on Sunday August 9, when they face the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons on neutral ground in St Vincent. The Kings will play their home fixtures at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground on August 12, 14, 16, 19 and 21, with all matches scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
