Egypt Invests Over $6 Billion in Telecom Infrastructure and Digital Connectivity Development Since 2019

Egypt has invested more than $6 billion in telecom infrastructure since 2019, according to discussions between Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindi, who reviewed ongoing digital and telecom sector projects.

The investment figure was highlighted as part of a broader update on Egypt’s efforts to strengthen its digital economy through major upgrades in connectivity, mobile networks, and internet services. The minister noted that the multi-billion-dollar spending has been directed toward building stable fixed and mobile internet infrastructure across the country.

The telecom development programme includes expansion of fibre-optic networks, improvements in internet quality, and the rollout of 5G services. It also covers upgrades to national coverage through the construction of new telecom towers and the enhancement of existing network infrastructure.

Officials stated that the government plans to add around 3,000 new telecom towers this year, with more than 9,000 additional towers expected over the next three years as part of ongoing infrastructure expansion efforts.

In addition, the minister confirmed that recent spectrum allocations worth $3.5 billion were issued to Egypt’s four telecom operators, further supporting network expansion and service quality improvements.

The update also forms part of Egypt’s wider strategy to position itself as a regional digital hub, including investments in data centres, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence infrastructure to support future digital services growth.
