Gaita, Otile set pace in Second Leg of MTN Pro Tee

After a gripping four days at the Uganda Golf Club in Kitante during Johnnie Walker Uganda Pro Open last week, the local professionals were back in action on Tuesday.

The second leg of the MTN Pro Tee got underway at Entebbe Club with 40 proffesionals, including the Uganda Pro Open winner Ronald Rugumayo, taking the par-71 course.

However, it was Rodell Gaita and Ronald Otile, who set the pace on the opening day, playing a 4-under-67.

“It was a good start to today. I had a couple of chances created on the front nine but I couldn’t convert. But on the back nine, the putter started clicking,” Gaita, who recorded an eagle on the par-5 hole 15, said.

Gaita’s card read one eagle, five birdies, and ten even scores. He, however, scratched on holes 4 and 16 with a bogey and double bogey respectively.

Meanwhile, Otile sunk five birdies on holes 5, 12, 13, 15 and 18. He recorded a bogey on 14 but played even on the rest of the holes.

“The first round was like a game plan. I have been having bad starts but this time round I did my notes and found out I need to have a game plan for first day, it’s all about patience and consistence,” Otile said.

Inaugural Pro Tee winner Abraham Ainamani is tied for third alongside Deo Akope with scores of 3-under 68.

Uganda Pro Open winner Ronald Rugumayo is fifth with 1-under 70.

Marvin Kibirige, Herman Mutaawe and Hussein Bagalana played even and are tied for 6th.
