Gareth Cliff reacts to Naledi Pandor home invasion ‘No special love’

Gareth Cliff, who once described Naledi Pandor as looking like a “turd”, has now sympathised with her after she was robbed at gunpoint inside her home in Pretoria.

The former DIRCO minister was with her husband, Sharif Pandor, during the traumatic incident.

GARETH CLIFF REACTS TO NALEDI PANDOR HOME INVASION

Speaking on his Truth Report podcast, Gareth Cliff reacted to the news that Naledia Pandor was a victim of a home invasion by a group of gunmen last weekend.

The former minister and her husband were held at gunpoint, as thieves ransacked their Pretoria home.

Gareth said, “For this to happen to anyone is absolutely horrible. I have no special love for Naledi Pandor; I pretty much despise most of her political points.

“I think she was an absolutely disastrous minister. [But], I don’t wish for any person in the world to have armed robbers break into their house and threaten them. It must be a horrible and devastating experience for her. And no one deserves that”.

He added: “But it does show that the people in blue light brigades and behind government security are not immune once they leave office”.

THAT TURD INCIDENT

Gareth Cliff’s empathetic words come three years after he was publicly condemned for insulting Naledi Pandor’s appearance.

In an Instagram Story in October 2023, Gareth compared Naledi’s appearance to a bowel movement. The former 5FM presenter posted a pic of the minister wearing a brown headscarf during a media briefing in Tehran.

Reposting a pic of Naledi wearing a scarf, he shared: “When the best you can come up for Halloween is to dress up as a turd.”

Gareth – who was criticised for making racist and Islamophobic comments – clapped back: “People are very stupid.

“The ones who get upset when I say John Steenhuisen needs to lose weight if he wants votes are different from the ones who get upset when I call Joe Biden a cadaver. And those are different from the ones who get cross when I talk about Naledi Pandor—all hypocrites”.

He continued: “To be clear, I don’t care if you’re upset or offended. Those are your problems to deal with. I’m not required to be polite or tiptoe around your emotional fragility. ….expect me to care even less”.

Gareth Cliff added that he had no issue with being called racist or Islamophobic.

He continued: “And call me whatever you like. You don’t know what’s in my head. You can’t know. I’m very happy and very lucky to be me. I’m grateful for that and disinterested in what strangers might think of me”.
