HONOR to Bring Advanced Smartphone Manufacturing Technologies to Egypt

Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology,  Raafat Hendy, has held discussions with senior executives from HONOR  to explore plans for expanding smartphone manufacturing in the country.

The meeting, attended by representatives from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA),  the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA),  and Etisal Trading —HONOR’s exclusive distributor in Egypt—focused on scaling up local production capabilities.

HONOR outlined its plans to expand mobile phone manufacturing through its facility in 10th of Ramadan City, in partnership with Etisal Trading. The move forms part of the company’s broader strategy to position Egypt as a key regional hub for its operations across the Middle East and Africa. The expansion aims to produce competitively priced, high-quality devices for the domestic market while increasing exports under the “Made in Egypt” label.

Both sides reviewed opportunities to enhance existing production lines and introduce advanced manufacturing technologies, with a focus on transferring global expertise to local talent and strengthening Egypt’s capabilities in the fast-evolving smartphone industry.

The government reiterated its commitment to building a fully integrated mobile phone manufacturing ecosystem, leveraging local expertise while fostering partnerships with international technology companies. Efforts are being supported under the Egypt Makes Electronics (EME) initiative, which provides incentives and a favorable investment environment to encourage local production, innovation, and job creation.

HONOR highlighted its intention to deepen its presence in Egypt, emphasizing the importance of working with strong local partners to deliver high-quality devices for both local and regional markets. The company’s global footprint includes operations in dozens of countries, with a strong focus on research and development and AI-powered devices.

Etisal Trading noted that HONOR’s decision to establish its first overseas manufacturing facility outside China in Egypt reflects confidence in the country’s investment climate and industrial capabilities. The factory is expected to play a strategic role in supporting HONOR’s expansion across Africa and neighboring markets.

The facility in 10th of Ramadan City is currently in its trial phase and is scheduled for official inauguration before the end of the year. With an annual production capacity of up to three million units, the factory spans approximately 8,000 square meters and features advanced production and surface-mount technology (SMT) lines. The project is also expected to create around 1,000 skilled jobs, contributing to Egypt’s growing electronics manufacturing sector.
