The Houston Police Department (HPD) has officially parted ways with Officer Ashley Gonzalez. On Friday, the department announced her termination after a swift internal investigation confirmed she made a series of disturbing, racist comments in a viral social media video.
The controversy ignited earlier in the week when a video, reportedly leaked from Gonzalez’s Instagram “Close Friends” story, started circulating online.
In the footage, which appears to have been filmed while she was off-duty in her car, Gonzalez can be heard repeatedly using racial slurs directed at Black people. During the shocking rant, she mocked slavery, explicitly stated she “hated Black people,” and boasted about how “good” it felt to say the N-word out loud.

HPD leadership did not mince words when addressing the incident. Chief J. Noe Diaz, Jr. strongly condemned her actions, stating, “The behavior exhibited by Ashley Gonzalez was abhorrent, disgusting, and entirely unacceptable.” He added that such conduct is deeply disturbing and has absolutely no place in law enforcement or the community.
According to the department’s official statement, Gonzalez was immediately relieved of duty the moment they were made aware of the video.
HPD expressed its commitment to holding officers to the “highest standards of integrity and conduct,” confirming that her termination was processed as quickly as legally possible in compliance with state civil service laws.
Gonzalez, who previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2019 to 2023, was sworn into the Houston Police Department in January 2024 and assigned to the South Gessner Patrol Division.
In the wake of her firing, community advocates and city council members are now calling for a thorough review of her past arrests to determine if any Houstonians’ rights were violated due to racial bias.
