By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police have detained a man in connection with a motorcycle collision that claimed the life of 46-year-old Jaime Haroldo Catalan of San Marcos Village.
The crash occurred shortly before midnight on Friday, August 21, between Duck Run 1 and Billy White Village in the Cayo District.
Catalan was found unresponsive on the roadway with grave injuries. Police also found his damaged motorcycle and a second motorcycle with minor damage.
Investigators believe Catalan was travelling toward Billy White when 26-year-old Javier Pinelo of Bullet Tree Village overtook him. According to preliminary information, Pinelo encountered oncoming traffic and swerved back in front of Catalan, leading Catalan’s motorcycle to collide with the rear of Pinelo’s motorcycle.
Pinelo was also injured and taken to the San Ignacio Community Hospital. Police obtained a specimen from him, detained him under police guard and issued a Notice of Intended Prosecution.
Investigations continue.
