NCBA, Dentons and KCCA plant trees to commemorate World Environment Day

In commemoration of World Environment Day (WED), NCBA Bank Uganda, in partnership with Dentons and KCCA, has planted trees at Nakasero Primary School. The World Environment Day Tree Planting Initiative brought together NCBA staff, pupils, and the school administration to promote environmental conservation and community engagement.

The Head of Strategy and Sustainability at NCBA Bank Uganda, Martin Mwanje, said that the activity is anchored on NCBA’s “Change the Story” Sustainability Strategy, highlighting our commitment to environmental stewardship, community impact, and employee engagement.

“The activity highlights the key commitments under our 2026–2030 Sustainability Strategy, including: growing 100,000 trees by 2030 through strategic partnerships; Supporting the communities in which we operate; and inspiring staff to make a difference through the “I Change the Story” programme,” Mwanje said.

“As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, our immediate objective is to plant 500 trees and support the establishment of a grass field that pupils can use during their recreational time,” Mwanje added.

World Environment Day (WED) is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect of the environment.

According to the United Nations, World Environment Day 2026 focuses on climate change—on the urgent signals the Earth is sending and the signals we choose to send back. The United Nations Environment Programme’s global campaign calls on all of us to step in, to move further, to steer a world already in motion. The question is no longer if change comes, but how we guide it and how fast it happens.

The Republic of Azerbaijan hosted the global observance in Baku, while a cascade of events, campaigns, and creative actions unfolded across continents—on screens, in streets, and in communities everywhere.

The theme for World Environment Day 2026 is “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”

Adjumani district was the national host for this year’s celebrations in Uganda.
