Netflix has released the official trailer and first look images for Tyler Perry’s Doing Life, giving audiences their first real look at the upcoming drama. The film centers on two people carrying very different struggles who unexpectedly find a reason to believe in a better future.
Meet The Characters
Naomi Baker stars as a single mother fighting to keep herself and her family afloat. Her character is navigating the realities of trying to survive while carrying the responsibilities that come with motherhood and doing it all on her own.
Jay Reeves plays a formerly incarcerated man who is determined to rebuild his life. After serving time, he is trying to figure out what comes next while discovering that he may have a talent capable of changing his future.
Their paths eventually cross, and what begins as an unlikely connection becomes an opportunity for both characters to start over.
According to the Netflix press release, the film’s official logline describes the story as one about “a single mother fighting to survive and a reformed ex-con with untapped talent” who find an unexpected second chance in each other.
Tyler Perry Is Behind The Camera
Perry wrote and directed Doing Life, adding another feature to his growing Netflix partnership. He also serves as a producer alongside Tony L. Strickland and Angi Bones.
The new film follows Perry’s recent work on The Six Triple Eight, continuing his focus on stories that center Black lives, resilience and complicated personal journeys.
As Essence shared, Doing Life also reunites Perry with Jay Reeves, who appeared in The Six Triple Eight. Reeves has continued building momentum with leading roles, while Baker previously appeared in All American: Homecoming.
A Cast Worth Watching
Alongside Baker and Reeves, the film features Tamberla Perry, Karen Obilom, Jasmine Sargent, Lucky Johnson and Danielle Moné Truitt, who audiences may recognize from Law & Order: Organized Crime.
With a cast that brings both familiar faces and rising talent to the screen, Doing Life looks poised to deliver the kind of emotional drama Perry fans know well.
