Safaricom Ethiopia CEO Calls for Greater Interoperability in Digital Africa

Safaricom Ethiopia  has highlighted the importance of interoperability, inclusive digital infrastructure and sustainable investment in advancing Ethiopia’s digital economy.

Speaking at the GSMA Workshop on Digital Africa, Safaricom Ethiopia CEO Wim Vanhelleputte emphasised the need for a connected and inclusive digital ecosystem aligned with the country’s Digital Ethiopia 2030 agenda and National Digital Payments Strategy.

Vanhelleputte also stressed the importance of interoperable and real-time digital payment systems in expanding participation in the digital economy. He said such infrastructure would help support a more digitally enabled Ethiopia while strengthening access to digital services.

Through M-PESA Ethiopia, Safaricom Ethiopia is contributing to the country’s digital transformation by advancing interoperability, digital financial inclusion and innovation. The company said these efforts are intended to broaden participation in Ethiopia’s digital economy.

The GSMA workshop continues at Safaricom Ethiopia’s headquarters, bringing together stakeholders to discuss collaboration and strategies for shaping the country’s digital future.
