Saint Lucia concludes participation at Commonwealth Games

Saint Lucia’s small team has wrapped up its four days at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Michael Joseph, who will compete in Paris 2024, reached the semifinals in the men’s 400m on Thursday at EDF Scotstoun Stadium.

Joseph, who holds the national 400m record and studies at the University of Arkansas, ran in the opening round on Tuesday. He finished third in his heat in 45.84 seconds from Lane 8, which qualified him for the semifinals.

A 2022 Commonwealth Games finalist, the 23-year-old from Gros Islet was unable to reach the final this time around. Joseph was sixth in his semifinal on Thursday, running from Lane 1. He turned in a time of 46.69, ending 13th overall. 

Marvric Pamphile, a British Army soldier from Choiseul, also competed in the men’s 400m. The 31-year-old clocked 47.12 seconds in the opening round on Tuesday and finished 19th overall. 

Khailan Vitalis kicked things off in the men’s 110m hurdles on Monday. He finished with a time of 14.46 seconds to place 11th overall across the opening heats and did not advance. 

After Glasgow, Vitalis flew across the Atlantic to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where he will be the only track athlete in action for Saint Lucia at the Central American and Caribbean Games. As with the Commonwealth Games, the team for CAC is selected and managed under the auspices of the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee.
