The Soufriere Regional Development Foundation (SRDF) and the National Insurance Corporation (NIC) are taking National Sneaker Day 2026 to new heights with the launch of Summit in Sneakers — a high-energy corporate hiking challenge set against the backdrop of one of Saint Lucia’s most iconic landmarks.

The initiative, officially unveiled on Wednesday, will see teams from businesses, organisations and institutions across the island tackle the demanding Gros Piton Nature Trail on Sunday, June 28, in what organisers describe as a powerful mix of wellness, teamwork and adventure tourism.

Far from an ordinary hike, Summit in Sneakers is being positioned as a competitive team experience designed to test endurance, unity and resilience. Teams of ten will navigate four checkpoints along the trail, earning points throughout the climb, with the highest-scoring team walking away as the official challenge champion.

Speaking at the launch of NIC’s National Sneaker Day activities, SRDF Corporate Communications and Marketing Manager Lovely Saint-Aimé Joseph said the initiative comes at a time when meaningful human connection outside traditional office settings has become increasingly valuable.

“In today’s fast-paced work culture, opportunities for genuine team bonding outside of office spaces are increasingly important,” Joseph explained. “Summit in Sneakers creates space for encouragement, resilience, laughter, challenge and shared accomplishment in a way that few meeting rooms or workshops ever could.”

Organisers say the event has been carefully structured to balance excitement with safety and environmental protection. Participants will move through the trail using a pre-registration and timed-wave system aimed at preventing overcrowding and preserving the integrity of the UNESCO-recognised site.

The experience will also include warm-up sessions, guided departures, safety briefings, branded summit photo opportunities, team checkpoints along the route and participation certificates for climbers who complete the challenge.

The hike officially begins at 7:00 a.m. at the Gros Piton Nature Trail in Soufriere, with registration details expected to be released in the coming weeks.

With wellness culture continuing to grow across Saint Lucia, organisers are hoping Summit in Sneakers becomes more than just a one-day event but a movement encouraging healthier lifestyles, stronger workplace relationships and deeper appreciation for the island’s natural heritage.
