URA aims to end SC Villa dominance in Friday clash at Nakivubo

URA will hope to maintain a perfect start to the 2026/27 season when they host SC Villa at the Hamz stadium, Nakivubo on Friday.

The tax men started their reign under new head coach Jimmy Kintu Mwera with a 2-1 come from behind victory over Maroons at Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku in their opening match.

On the other hand, Villa threw away a goal-lead to draw 1-1 with visitors Kitara on return to their Wankulukuku home.

Speaking to the media, Joshua Lubwama, URA midfielder wants to bag three points against the record champions and is confident of achieving the feat against the Jogoos who have of recent enjoyed decent results against the tax men.

“We have prepared well and playing at home, we need maximum points and we shall go for that,” said Lubwama.

“The technical staff has prepared us well and that showed in that come back win against Maroons as we showed great mentality,” he added.

URA have not won against SC Villa since the 1-0 on the final day of the 2022/23 season which denied the Jogoos title no.17 then before they won it a season later.

In fact, Villa are unbeaten against URA eight matches in all competitions since that defeat [W4, D4].

Four of the past five matches hosted by URA in this meeting have ended in draws with the Jogoos winning once; last season’s Uganda Cup 2-0 win at Nakivubo.

URA will rely on Moses Waiswa, Abraham Tusubira, Lubwama, Nelson Ssenkatuka and youngster Marvin Nyanzi to unlock the Villa backline manned by new captain Arnold Odong.

For Villa, the onus to threaten the hosts’ backline on Patrick Kakande who was superb against Kitara, Frank Ssebuufu and Reagan Mpande who was a culprit for missing a good chance to extend lead in the opening match.
