Anguilla’s AXA ITF Taekwon-do team returned home with an impressive 15-medal haul following a strong showing at the USTC’s Red Tiger Cup in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The competitors collected nine gold, two silver and four bronze medals in a tournament that tested both technical ability and endurance against international standards on 25 and 26 April.

Standout performances came from D’Naire Duncan, Zyon Romney, Zuriel Wilkes, Ameiah Rey, Haojun ‘James’ Tang and Varick Gumbs, each contributing to the team’s overall success.

A club statement on 30 April emphasised that the value of the competition extended beyond podium finishes, highlighting the opportunity for athletes to benchmark their progress against competitors abroad.

“Experiences like this continue to raise the technical level and athletic capacity of our athletes and we are excited about what lies ahead,” it read.

The event was hosted by Master Marcello Cancelliere of Red Tiger Taekwon-do, who was commended for organising a high-quality tournament that provided a competitive platform for developing athletes.

The performance comes as AXA ITF Taekwon-do marks its 25th anniversary, with the Red Tiger Cup representing the first of several major events planned for the year.

The team acknowledged the role of parents and supporters, whose fundraising efforts helped make the trip possible.
