London-based independent publisher Ankara Press is officially open for submissions.
The outfit is a Black-centred, Black-led imprint, which believes in amplifying stories that reflect the diversity and nuance of Black experiences from Lagos to Los Angeles, Kingston to Kigali, to Cape Town to Caracas, for everyone to enjoy.
Ankara Press is looking for full-length commercial fiction and nonfiction by Black writers from across the globe. They want joyful, strange, tender, sexy, hilarious, haunting, hopeful books that reflect the complexity of Black life and keep readers glued to the page. If your story makes people laugh out loud, cry in public, or text their group chat right after reading, they want to hear from you.
The imprint is in search of smart, swoony romances; bold, character-driven women’s fiction; unforgettable horror and twisty thrillers; vision-rich sci-fi and fantasy; fresh, voicy nonfiction; and middle grade stories filled with humour, heart and Black kids being fully themselves. In their words, they “want self-reinvention, morally grey anti-heroes, intergenerational hauntings, sexy mage rivals, cults and corruption, summer camp sagas, folk horror, monster boyfriends, and much more.”
