Barry appointed acting FIC director

The Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) has appointed Zenobia Barry as its acting director, effective 1 October.

Barry’s appointment follows the reassignment of Bryan Eiseb, who has headed the FIC since 2024 and was appointed as director general of the Anti-Corruption Commission by president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, effective from the same date.

According to a media statement issued by the FIC on Wednesday, Barry currently serves as the centre’s general manager responsible for legal, policy and enforcement and has 31 years of professional experience.

“Barry assumes the role at a momentous time for the FIC, as the centre continues to strengthen its institutional capacity, stakeholder collaboration and regulator effectiveness, while supporting Namibia’s broader framework for combating money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing,” the statement says.

Barry holds a bachelor of law and a bachelor of arts in law from the University of the Western Cape and is admitted as a legal practitioner of the High Court of Namibia.

She is a trained Financial Action Task Force and Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group assessor.

She has played a key role in Namibia’s efforts to strengthen its anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing and counter-proliferation financing framework.

Barry led the technical coordination of Namibia’s grey-listing remediation process and brings extensive experience and expertise to her new role.

“The board and the entire FIC have full confidence in her leadership,” the statement says.
