Three Saint Lucian scholars have been recognised by the British High Commission following the completion of their studies in the United Kingdom under the prestigious Chevening Scholarship Programme.
British High Commissioner to Saint Lucia, Doyin Adele Shiyanbola, hosted a reception in honour of the island’s 2024-2025 Chevening scholars, welcoming them home and celebrating their academic achievements and future contributions to national development.
The returning scholars, Parish Lionel, Nyas Alfred and Amani Mathurin, were commended for successfully completing what the High Commissioner described as a transformative educational journey.
“It’s a real pleasure to celebrate the UK’s flagship Chevening Scholarship and to warmly welcome home Saint Lucia’s 2024-2025 scholars, Parish Lionel, Nyus Alfred and Amani Mathurin,” Shiyanbola said.
The British diplomat highlighted the broader impact of the scholarship programme, noting that it extends beyond academic attainment to shape future leaders and changemakers.
“Chevening is a truly transformative experience,” she said. “It not only equips scholars with world-class academic knowledge, but also fosters personal growth, confidence and lifelong connections.”
According to Shiyanbola, the scholars are returning to Saint Lucia with fresh perspectives and practical expertise gained through their experiences abroad.
“As they have returned, they will have brought back new perspectives, skills and ideas that will make a meaningful difference here in Saint Lucia,” she stated.
The High Commissioner also underscored the importance of the global network that scholars join upon completing the programme.
“Through the Global Chevening Network, they are now part of an extraordinary community and will play a vital role as bridges between Saint Lucia and the UK,” she said.
Shiyanbola expressed optimism about the scholars’ future contributions and reaffirmed the British High Commission’s commitment to maintaining ties with them as they embark on the next phase of their professional journeys.
“I’m really delighted to have hosted a reception in their honour and look forward to staying in touch, hearing about their achievements and supporting their exciting plans for the future,” she said.
She concluded by extending her congratulations and best wishes to the trio.
