Morocco eyes top spot in Group C with win over Haiti

Morocco are on the verge of progressing from the group for the second successive World Cup as they face Haiti in the last group phase match on Wednesday at 1am.

With a win over Scotland and a draw versus Brazil, The Atlas Lions are on four points and a win against the Caribbean side will ensure they finish top of group C.

However, even a draw or defeat could still see the reigning African champions progress to the round of 32.

Last edition’s semi-finalists at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Morocco should be optimistic of success against Haiti, as they have not lost any of their last six group-stage games at the World Cup (W3 D3) and have put together a remarkable 31-game unbeaten run across all competitions (W26 D5).

On the other hand, Haiti are the lowest ranked nation in 87th position and they are still searching for their first ever World Cup point after following up their three group-stage losses back in 1974 with successive Group C defeats to Scotland and Brazil.

They lost 1-0 to Scotland and 3-0 to five-time champions Brazil so far and are already eliminated regardless of which result they post against Morocco.

This will be the first ever meeting between the two nations but Haiti’s last meeting with an African side ended in a 1-0 defeat by Tunisia in an international friendly.

Elsewhere in the same group, Scotland lock horns with Brazil with either seeking maximum points that automatically earns them one of the top two spots in the group.
