Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces have booked their place in the CAF Champions League final despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to fellow Moroccan side Renaissance Berkane in Saturday’s semifinal second leg.
The military-backed club progressed 2-1 on aggregate after taking a commanding two-goal advantage from the first leg in Rabat last week.
That cushion proved decisive as they withstood sustained pressure before conceding in the 57th minute when Yassine Labhiri converted from the penalty spot for Berkane.
Berkane, appearing in their first-ever CAF Champions League campaign, pushed hard for another goal that would have forced a penalty shootout, but Royal Armed Forces held firm to secure passage to the final.
They will now face South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, who sealed a 2-0 aggregate victory over Tunisia’s Esperance earlier on Saturday to reach the title decider.
The first leg of the final is scheduled for May 15 in South Africa, while the return leg will take place in Rabat seven days later.
Royal Armed Forces are chasing a second continental crown, having last lifted Africa’s premier club trophy in 1985.
This marks their first appearance in the final since that triumph.
