Google TV is rolling out a series of new updates designed to make the big-screen experience more personalized, creative, and interactive. The latest features introduce artificial intelligence tools that allow users to generate images and videos, enhance photo experiences, and soon access a dedicated space for short-form video content directly on the TV home screen.
According to Google TV UX Manager & Design Lead Michael DelGaudio and Product Manager Gaurav Chaula, the updates are aimed at turning the television into a shared creative hub for families and friends. The company said the new experience is designed to help users “connect, create and share laughs together,” whether by generating playful content, revisiting memories, or watching short videos on the big screen.
One of the key additions is a new AI-powered image generation feature called Nano Banana, which allows users to transform photos into imaginative creations. Users can issue voice prompts such as “Make my dad wear a ridiculous outfit” to modify images in humorous or creative ways. The feature is accessible through the Gemini 1 tab under a “Create” option and is designed to turn the TV into a collaborative creative canvas.
Google TV is also introducing Veo, an AI video generation tool that enables users to create custom videos from text prompts or animate existing images. For example, users can request scenarios like “Make my grandfather moonwalk in space,” with the system generating short videos on demand. These creative AI tools are initially launching on Gemini-enabled TCL Google TVs in the United States.
In addition to content creation, Google TV is improving integration with Google Photos. Users can now search their photo libraries using voice commands through Gemini, making it easier to find specific memories such as vacations or celebrations. The platform will present browsable results that can be viewed full-screen or turned into slideshows.
Further enhancing personalization, users will be able to remix photos into different artistic styles, including watercolor and oil painting effects, using a feature called Google Photos Remix. The platform is also expanding dynamic slideshow capabilities, allowing any Google Photos album to be transformed into visually rich screen displays directly on the TV.
Finally, Google TV is preparing to introduce a new “Short videos for you” section on its home screen. This feature will curate personalized short-form video content, starting with YouTube Shorts. The rollout is expected to begin in the United States during the summer, offering users an easy way to access snackable video content directly from their home screen.
