Former Ghana national football team winger Albert Adomah has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding the integration of dual-national players, insisting that openness should prevail—while acknowledging the delicate dynamics within the squad.

Speaking on the subject, Adomah made it clear that he sees no fundamental issue with inviting players of Ghanaian descent who are willing to represent the country. “For me it’s not difficult,” he said. “If the player is available and he wants to come, then it should not be a problem. If they are Ghanaian, then you have to welcome them. That’s how I see them.”

His comments come at a time when national teams, including Ghana, continue to scout talent across the diaspora in a bid to strengthen their squads ahead of major tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup.

However, the former winger was quick to highlight a key caveat—particularly when it comes to timing and merit. Adomah acknowledged that tensions can arise when players who did not participate in qualification campaigns are drafted in directly for major tournaments. “I understand maybe they have not played the qualifiers and will be coming straight to the World Cup—then that’s a different story,” he noted.

He also empathized with players already within the setup, recognizing the potential frustration of losing a place to late arrivals. “I understand that from the players’ point of view,” Adomah admitted, underlining the competitive and emotional realities within national team selection.

Despite these concerns, Adomah ultimately backed the authority of the technical team, stressing that performance objectives should guide decisions. “You want your best players to be there,” he said. “If the technical staff say these are the players that maybe can get us to the semifinals of the World Cup, then they should be welcome.”

Adomah’s balanced stance reflects the broader challenge facing modern international football—blending meritocracy, national identity, and squad cohesion in pursuit of success on the global stage.
