Busia Secondary School stunned Kibuli S.S 1-0 in group L during the 2026 USSSA Boys’ football at Canon Lawrence primary school grounds, Boroboro on Thursday.
Bruno Joseph Wafula’s first half strike inspired Busia SS to a memorable victory that puts them top of the pool with 7 points.
Brian Okoth looked on his disbelief as his header razed off the cross bar in one of the Kibuli S.S’ endless attacks towards Busia S.S.
“I salute the character of my players. We planned well being our third time at the nationals. True, we started the group stages as underdogs but my players had the right mentality and character” Ivan George Wamalwa, head coach of Busia S.S remarked.
“Qualifying out of the group for Busia S.S is a big achievement. This is the first time we are making it and I salute the entire team effort” Dan Waiswa, the games’ master hinted.
Despite the slip and shock; Kibuli SS advanced to the round of 32 stage with 4 points.
In the same group (L), St Kagwa Bushenyi and Kabalega S.S played to a 2-all draw at the road-side Lira P7 grounds as the two schools bowed out with 2 points apiece.
Meanwhile, Bukedea Comprehensive School South overcame Masaka city’s NUMASA 3-1 at the Lira Town College Playground.
This victory means that Bukedea Comprehensive South has made it 3-out-of-3 wins in the group stages.
In other morning duels; GreenLight Islamic edge St Joseph Buyaga 2-1; Panyadoli Self Help thumped Mbarara Army 4-0 and Mvara S.S fell 2-3 to Bristol S.S.
