HWANGE Central Member of Parliament Daniel Molokele has been arrested after police allegedly disrupted a meeting of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) project implementation committee.
It is not yet clear why police moved to stop the event or on what legal basis the arrest was made.
Molokele said officers stormed the meeting and ordered it to stop, insisting they were acting on strict instructions.
“Police in Whange have just arrested me. They disrupted a CDF project implementation process committee. I tried to explain to them that this was not a public meeting, but they told me that they were under strict orders to stop the CDF project meeting.
“I am now in a police vehicle heading to the police station,” he said in a message sent while being taken into custody.
The CDF is a government kitty meant to support grassroots development projects and is usually overseen by the sitting legislator working with a local implementation committee.
