The Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy , in partnership with Huawei  and other key ecosystem players, has officially launched the Kenya AI for Disability Project at the 15th Connected Africa Summit 2026 in Nairobi. The initiative represents a significant step toward advancing inclusive digital transformation in Kenya and across the wider African region.

The project brings together a broad coalition of partners, including the State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, the Kenya Institute of Special Education, Qhala, Assistive Technologies for Disability Trust (AT4D), and inABLE. This multi-stakeholder collaboration aims to ensure coordinated efforts in developing and deploying artificial intelligence solutions that address the needs of persons with disabilities.

With participation from stakeholders representing more than 12 African countries, the initiative highlights a growing continental commitment to making artificial intelligence more accessible and impactful. The project focuses on unlocking opportunities in skills development, innovation, and broader participation in the digital economy for persons with disabilities.

Aligned with Huawei’s TECH4ALL initiative, the partnership reinforces a shared goal of ensuring that no one is left behind as digital transformation accelerates across Africa. The initiative emphasizes inclusive innovation as a core pillar of emerging digital ecosystems.

As part of the broader program, organizers also recognized students who participated in the AI for Disability Hackathon 2024, commending their creativity and problem-solving efforts. These innovations are expected to contribute to the development of practical solutions that can improve accessibility and quality of life.

Huawei and its partners reiterated their commitment to supporting young innovators in refining and scaling their ideas into viable, real-world solutions that can deliver meaningful social impact.
