Ma-E Gears Up For Upcoming Single “Ubzukuzuku” Featuring Focalistic

The South African hip-hop veteran has officially announced the release of Ubzukuzuku 2.0, a revamped version of his beloved track featuring Amapiano heavyweight Focalistic. The single is set to drop on 11 September, giving fans another reason to look forward to the start of spring.

Originally released on Ma-E’s 2016 solo album Township Counsellor, Ubzukuzuku became part of the catalogue that strengthened his reputation as one of the country’s distinctive township storytellers. Now, almost a decade later, the rapper is revisiting the record with one of Amapiano’s biggest names.

The collaboration brings together two artists from different chapters of South Africa’s hip-hop and street music story. Ma-E, whose real name is Ezee Hanabe, first made his mark as a member of Teargas alongside K.O and Ntukza before carving out his own identity as a solo artist.

Focalistic, born Lethabo Sebetso, has meanwhile become one of the most recognisable figures in the Amapiano movement. Known to many as the “President Ya Straata”, the Ga-Rankuwa-born star has built a reputation for seamlessly blending rap with the infectious rhythms of Amapiano, particularly through hits such as Ke Star.

Their coming together on Ubzukuzuku 2.0 feels like a meeting point between Ma-E’s raw hip-hop roots and Focalistic’s modern street sound. Clips and live previews have already given fans a taste of the collaboration, with early reactions pointing towards a record packed with rhythm, attitude and dancefloor appeal.

With 11 September officially marked on the calendar, anticipation is already building around what Ma-E and Focalistic have cooked up. Ubzukuzuku 2.0 could give an old favourite a fresh lease on life while introducing it to a new generation of listeners.
