Bam Adebayo put up 83 points for the Miami Heat in a 150–129 win over the Washington Wizards yesterday (Mar 10) at Kaseya Center in Miami. The building was lit as fans rose to their feet for every shot, watching history unfold.

The 6-foot-9 center passed the late Kobe Bryant’s 81-point game and now holds the second-highest single-game scoring record in NBA history behind Wilt Chamberlain’s 100.

Known for his defense, edge on both ends, and ability to lift his team, Adebayo turned one of the league’s best individual efforts into a decisive Miami win. The once one-and-done prospect at the University of Kentucky has grown from a dominant forward into one of the Heat’s most respected and selfless players. Last night was BAM night.
Adebayo had 43 points at halftime and 62 by the end of the third quarter.
After the game, he reflected on passing the late Kobe Bryant. “To be at 83 and passing Kobe, it’s like, what would he say to me?” Adebayo said. “He’d probably say, ‘Go do it again.’ It’s a surreal moment being in the company of someone you idolized growing up.”
The Heat’s momentum is quickly building. The team sits in eighth place in the Eastern Conference with about a 68 percent chance of securing a playoff spot.
Bam Adeebayo was born Edrice Femi Adebayo to an African American mother and Nigerian Yoruba father. He earned his nickname from a childhood habit of running into the coffee table—“Bam Bam,” as his family affectionately recalled. Nearly a decade into his NBA career, he’s a three-time All-Star, five-time All-Defensive Team honoree, and a gold medalist with the 2020 and 2024 U.S. Olympic teams.
Adebayo celebrated the win with his teammates, mom, coach Erik Spoelstra, and his significant other, 3x WNBA champion A’ja Wilson, who plays for the Las Vegas Aces. She joined him at the postgame press conference.

With the spotlight on him, he made sure to share it with his girlfriend as he spoke about how she motivates him:
“She’s been gone a week. She was complaining I got my 10K points and wanted me to wait,” he said, smiling. “To have 83 in the first game she’s here is special. The behind-the-scenes workouts, conversations—they’re motivating. You see what she does. You get inspired every day by that. Thankful to have her in my life… she’s going to cry, by the way.”
Bam Adebayo on A’ja’s influence
Adebayo’s team success continues to be the foundation of his story. Even after surpassing his previous career high of 41 points (against the Brooklyn Nets in 2021), record-setting performance around the Miami Heat’s win, which was their sixth straight, improving their standing to 37-29.
