By Zoila Palma: On August 27, 2026, the Belize Bus Association issued a statement calling on the National Bus Company and the Belize City Council to pause further expansion into electric buses until the electricity support is confirmed to be stable and BEL’s grid capacity is confirmed.
But, the Ministry of Transportation responded saying that the charging stations for the electric buses being procured for the National Bus Company (NBC) will be powered primarily by solar energy, with Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) serving as a secondary power source.
